While driving through the Australian bush, a member of our group spotted this Frilled-neck lizard (also more poetically called the Frilled Dragon) climbing up the side of a stump. We grabbed our cameras and hopped out of the car to get a bit closer. The lizard was quick to show his magnificent frill. Even from a distance, his fierce hiss and the sight of his sharp teeth were impressive (and a bit intimidating). Based on the color of his frill and his abdomen, this was a male lizard in the peak of health. No doubt he is very impressive to the females 😉. After we had gotten a few shots, we backed away and the lizard dropped his frill and moved around to the back of the stump, out of sight.
