Full frame for BIF, Raptors and Wildlife

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I am planning to shift to mirrorless from dslr, at present I am using D500 and Tamron G2 150-600

I have purchased a 200-600mm Sony lens but confused about the camera body.

I am confused between sony a7 3 or sony a7 r3 (other full frames are out of budget right now)
My interest is in Birds in flight, Raptors and wildlife photography.

Please suggest.

Thanks

This depends on your shooting style and ‘common shooting scenario’
IF you struggle to fill the frame most of the time (and cropping happens to be a regular in PP) I’d recommend the R for its higher resolution.
If you don’t need that I’d choose the much cheaper non-R camera.
Better DR, better AF (A9 like) with better coverage and more AF points, better lowlight performance, better buffer and you save a Grant...BUT at the cost of less resolution (and a lesser viewfinder)
The latter is imo more than sufficient but there are a lot of others who will state otherwise.
Personally I really think the other properties more important than resolution for BIF

I use the a9ii and the A7r4 - both work well for wildlife and BIF work, although the A7r4 doesn't play real well with the 200-600. I haven't used the A73 or the A7r3 so I can't comment on those. All I can say is if you can swing an a9ii (or probably an a9), it'll get the job done.
