August in coastal South Carolina can be a bit slow for bird photography. The nesting season is over, it's hotter than blazes, and the birds are who-knows-where trying to stay cool. But, if you work at it there are still opportunities to be found.
I came upon a group of about 30 Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and Tri-colored Herons picking morsels out of Duckweed on a brackish marsh.
The Duckweed was thick, but not thick enough to support their weight, so they tip-toe danced across it while flapping their wings. Awkward, but efficient. And hilarious.
My wife and I watched for a long time and took hundreds of images. This is one of my favorites.
