The Giant Kingfisher is the world's largest aquatic KF. His OZ cousin, the Laughing Kookaburra, is larger but non-aquatic. Sexes are dimorphic with the male having a rufous chest and the female having the rufous below the chest. These images were taken in the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort, Gauteng. 6/10 of the KF found is SA can be seen here in summer.

Nice captures. Callie.
Nice Callie! Was the crab too heavy for him? Looks like he tried to fly off, then flopped back down...
Thanks guys, appreciated. Eddie, they catch large crabs, the water was shallow and the crab slippery, methinks. Made for better images than a straight in and out of the water dive.
