Give up D850 for Z6III?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I use the Nikon 200-500.

D850 keeper? Buy Z6III?

Is it stupid to sell the D850? Is it too good to give up and lose that resolution or is the future so different with mirrorless that I should give up holding on?

Ugh!

Thanks for everything!

FWIW - I had a D850 and really wanted to go Nikon mirrorless, but was fed up with waiting for the Z8. The Z7ii was not a mirrorless D850 for me so I started looking at comparing the Z6ii and Z7ii. I found that they were more brothers with each having advantages over the other rather than being on different steps of the model ladder.

I was reluctant to give up the 45MP sensor but decided to go with the better low light/high ISO performance of the Z6ii. I had been using Fuji XTs for a few years with 16-26MP and had a 24MP Sony a7ii exclusively for use with my vintage lenses, so 24MP had been in my life for a long time and had not been an issue.

Check out post #5 in this thread:

I enlarged the original to huge size and cut out the smaller image. Not bad for 24MP. The original only had my standard LR sharpening too and there has been no further sharpening.
