Really a nice photo of this bird, especially considering the iridescence! Is it normal to see them there?

Yes, they are a common bird there, but not quite as common as say, a great blue heron. I go there about once a week and see them almost every time. I posted a nice shot of one on Jan. 25. You may want to take a look at it if you really like their iridescence.
