Suddenly this gnu appeared from the high grass, and gave me the opportunity to take his portrait.

That's a great shot, but aren't they dangerous to be that close?

Thank you Barbara. I was driving in a car in Pilanesberg Park, SA when I saw it appear from the grass. Fortunately I had my camera at hand. This is 300mm on an DX camera, so it was still some distance away. BTW I sometimes miss my D90 which I traded in for a D7100. I love the shots I got with that camera.

Definitely had its eye on you. The lighting shows its stripes very well. Many photos that we see don't reveal the striping.

As it happens, I have been looking at old D90 photos lately and have been surprised at how good some of them are. Still love your gnu photo.
