Hi Guys, firstly my problem is very small birds located in temperate, ferny gullies. Photographing these little guys without extremely high ISO's is a nightmare. I have in my cupboard a pair of Nikon SB-200 flash units and i thought that these would be the perfect set-up as a fill-in flash set-up for my, either, D7500 or D300S and my 300mm F4 PF lens? Sorry, the question being, am I better off using a Nikon SU-800 Commander Unit or buying one of the Godox X Pro N TTL flash triggers that are Nikon tuned? I know nothing of the Godox units but hear good reports, and I assume that the Nikon gear would perform as Nikon gear should, although a couple of hundred dollars extra just for the name?
Any info that you guys can throw my way would be much appreciated and thanks in advance for taking the time to help out,
Bruce Terrill

I have a couple Godox TT685n units and the Godox XPro-N trigger. I have nothing but good to say about any of it. The 685 has high speed sync so you can get above 250 (or 320) shutter speed depending on your camera. The flashes have built in radios so no need for a receiver when using the Godox triggers. I have a couple of X1-R receiver units I can put on my older Nikon branded flashes if I ever need more lights. I don't think you will go wrong with Godox from my experience.

I used to use a Debaou SU 800 flash controller. Cheaper and better than the Nikon SU 800. This uses the infra red technology that the SU 800 uses. The Godox Xpro trigger is - AFAIK - just a radio transmitter, not infra red. Do your SB 200s have radio capabilities?

While radio is better as it has longer range and is more reliable in conditions where infra red can struggle, presuming that your SB200s are infra red, you could try a Debou unit or you will have to get flashes and a trigger.

Looks like they are not availavble new now but here is a UK ebay one

I sold my one when I went over to radio for 40GBP.

If you decide to go Godox - and I'd recommend them having a V860mk2 to go with my Nikon system and a V350 for my Fuji system and Xpro triggers for both. I've got the lithium power pack ones. They are dearer than the AA powered ones but on max power the V860 recycles in around 2 seconds and the packs last for ages especially if they are turned down.

FWIW - in the UK there are several places that sell rebranded Godox kit. Pixapro is probably the best known. Advantage with buying from them (in the UK) is that you get a 2 year warranty, slightly cheaper prices and customer service too! Worth checking in your country if rebranded Godox kit is available with better deals than you get with Godox.
