The purple background are the Layered Paleozoic Rocks that consist of the classic sedimentary strata that make up the upper portion of Grand Canyon’s rock walls. In the foreground are the Coconino Sandstone in yellow and slight orange colors. A true journey back in time when the Colorado River over millions of years carved its way through the sedimentary bedrock forming the Canyon itself.
