I spent time on the dock at the cottage Sunday morning, hoping for some wildlife action. I anticipated some birds flying over so I had the camera set for BIF with some positive exposure comp dialled in. After an hour of nothing happening I decided to leave. I had gone about 30 feet when something made me turn around, and that's when this GBH came flying past at eye level. I fired away and got a few shots that were seriously overexposed. I was pleasantly surprised to have been able to pull back the blown highlights.

That bird waited all that time for you to leave and you still got a shot? Looks like you were able to fully correct the over exposure. Any version of auto exposure for BIF is just a bad idea unless you can be 100 percent sure of the BG.
