Great Falls Park is part of the National Park system. The Potomac river drops 76 feet in one mile along this corridor. The shots taken show a broad view at the top of the falls and a detailed view of the right side of the falls. There were very large globs of yellow foam the I had to avoid in my compositions. Even so the clone function in LR got a workout.

I grew up a few miles from Great Falls. In my youth, before NPS took over after a hurricane, it was a destination. There was a carved wood merry go round and a large building that served food. Families would come to picnic and have an outing. Old Dominion Drive was a rail bed back in the day to ferry passengers to Great Falls from DC. There is a canal around the falls surveyed by George Washington and the remnants are still there. In my opinion, the NPS has made it a sterile place but the falls are still a sight.

That is a pretty amazing waterway. The crags are wow!. I would come back in fall as I bet those trees in the backdrop are something to see with that wonderful waterway shot!

Thanks for sharing a bit of history. I have family in Arlington so when we visit this is one of my favorite places to photograph.

Thank you fro your comments. It is pretty amazing and the gorge is much larger and deeper than it appears.

Bill, I like your zooming in on the details. My approach was to try and capture the whole scene with a wide view. I learned something!

If you go upstream to River Bend Park, you can walk down river to the Great Falls Park. It's a nice easy walk. When we were boys, we'd follow Difficult Run to the Potomac which is below the falls. We'd walk upstream along the gorge. It is a very pretty area with lots of views.

I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks for sharing!
