Greater Roadrunner

Reportedly the first of his species seen at this location, the roadrunner spent a season displaying his hunting skills and calling for a companion to no avail.

Super shots NatHist . This bird is so well adapted to its environment and its ability to catch food literally, "on the run", makes me think of small Velociraptors in prehistoric times !

Nice set of shots. Well captured. I have never seen one when I had a camera in hand. That will change.

Have fun with this species. I don't know if my experience is typical but in my limited close encounters with roadrunners I found that they were curious about the clicking shutter. They approached my position, probably knowing they could outrun me. :)
