Photographing fishing Grizzly Bears from the Nekite River Bank, in British Columbia 2 years ago, I came across this particularly handsome specimen about 12 metres away, up to his neck in the water. He spots me and proceeds to exhibit a range of poses worthy of the best portrait models in the country !

But first, a quick hair rinse to get that "natural look".

The "Vulnerable look" --- note how he stands taller to display some chest hair, very "manly" !

The "Father Figure Look" --- as if looking down at a smaller cub, "are you taking the mickey ? ". ( As a model he would have been distraught to see that errant right eyebrow hair !!!).

Finally, the "Wistful Look" ---" I really wouldn't be any trouble if you brought me home to meet the kids". Having exhausted his repertoire he resumed fishing.

Tremendous Sequence!👍

Ah David, a delightful yarn and a beaut Bear! great expressions! (y) 👌
Thanks Callie, this is one of few large mammals you are missing in the African fauna --- although I believe brown bears roamed the Atlas mountains way backk in time !

Beautiful series David crystal clear in every photo - I see you list your gear as D850 > 400mm etc , is the 400mm that you used a Prime Lens or do you mean it was shot at 400mm

Thanks David, problem is we have some criminals about the same size and not as nice as your grizzly. Yes, it would be wonderful to see these guys, especially salmon hunting on a rapid! ;)

Thanks Harry, yes I should have said it was a prime 400mm f2.8 in the description -- well spotted !

Very nice set of photos! That Grizz poses very well and looks friendly but you’re probably close enough.
Thanks Vern, this guy wasn't a problem, but a couple of others who chased a salmon into the bank beside us came within 2 metres ---- very difficult then to stand stock still as instructed by our guide who had a pepper spray in her hand -- which was not needed as the bears retreated after another fish !!
