Grubby tusker

This male had made the most of some recent rains to get a fresh coating of cool mud. interesting how elephants take on a different appearance dependent on where they habitat and the soil colour. Even in the area where this was taken, his cousins some 30miles away are more russet in colour. This tusker was aware of my presence hence his direct gaze and spread ears but continued to graze and didn't diplay any alert signs such as raising his trunk, sniffing or trumpeting. his head remain lowered and there wasn't any shaking of the head. So, keeping a safe distance and remaining quiet and still, we each gave the other respect and space and I got this capture

Here is a shot of some of the other herd before the male wandered off to snaffle a more attractive piece of shrubbery.
