I thought this looks like an eroded volcanic cone, with a bit of vegetation growing in the gullies, somewhere in a desert --

But it's not, it's actually a cropped photo of a very colorful fungus; a species I can't identify and don't remember ever seeing before in my more than 60 years of wandering forest and field. Here's the original photograph --
