Hand baggage on Mack Air

Hello everyone

In four weeks I’ll be travelling from Kasane to Moremi on Mack Air (in Botswana). The have a 20kg baggage allowance which is fine, however the carry on is limited to 5kg. I’ve just weighed my camera bag- z9 z7 100-400 24-120 and other bits and bobs, batteries, cards etc and it is coming to just shy of 8kg.

I don’t think I have a particularly heavy kit at all And I can’t see what I could take out to make it lighter.

How do people with cameras do this? Or am I misunderstanding something?

The few times I was in similar situations, I wore my Big Pockets vest and put a camera body in one big side pocket and lens or two in other pockets to keep my carryon bag within the weight limits. I've seen other vests even better suited for photo gear but don't recall the brand names.
