Out looking for elephants at a bay on the Chobe when we saw a few crocodiles basking and one swimming in the shallows. When it got to shore and turned around to face us, this is what I saw. This quill was still present three days later and appears to be deeply embedded. Anyone ever come across this? It certainly was a first for Charl Stols, the Pangolin photo host

Is that the tip of a quill poking up through its nose as well? Looks like it.

Not sure if all croc species are the same but American alligators don't suffer infections from wounds. Researchers are studying their blood/immune system trying to understand.
 
Very interesting, John. Saw them eating other crocs, with a leopard helping. I have seen many images from others of strange prey that crocs caught but never porcupines.
