Holeeeee! Monitor Hoods are Crazee Expensive!

I am really digging my new monitor, and I figured I'd get a hood for it. Well...the cheapest I see is about $60 bucks. No way I'm paying that for a couple of pieces of flat black plastic or metal. I get enough junk from Amazon, I'll just cut up a box and spray it matte black. It won't be elegant, but paying the same for that as an external 2GB hard drive is nuts to me. If I find an inexpensive on then sure...I'll grab it, but I see nothing available. If I'm just blind and you know of one...lemme know please.

if you want something a bit sturdier than foam core they make a plastic version of corrugated cardboard that would work to make your own like PhilcTx suggested. You may even have some around if you have any of those signs for yard that have the heavy wire legs that are used to stick them in the ground.

My BenQ 'photographer' monitors (SW27U) were supplied with hoods; however, US$60 for an aftermarket hood does not seem exorbitant to me.

Has anyone checked the cost of OEM hoods for telephoto lenses? They're not too different from jam tins painted black — or white, if that's your brand preference. Worth the saving? Admittedly, you'd also have to factor in the cost of some gaffer tape.
