My first attempt working with dried insects. I bought two, this hornet and a colorful beetle. After rehydrating, cleaning, treating the eyes with Decon 90 I mounted this hornet on a pin and used a Z7 with the Loawa 25mm 2.5 to 5x macro (at 2.5x).
I learned that hairy insects secret a a waxy/greasy substance visible in this image. The techniques to clean this substance I found use very caustic chemicals. Any help with ways to remove the wax/grease would be appreciated.
