I dunno the answer to that old rhyme, but I do know where I grew up we have always called this animal the Groundhog. They are the same animal, just different common names. These guys were absolutely ubiquitous when I was growing up in a tiny town surrounded by farms. Hadn't seen one in decades, perhaps, until last summer (might have posted the lone shot I got) and a couple weekends ago I returned to that sighting scene with reports a few families were established. Unfortunately while I was sitting with these guys they made not a peep -- they whistle and grunt and hiss and bark -- the whistles are quite cute to hear. Considered a pest by many, nicely the landowner where these guys have taken up residence couldn't be happier that they've moved in
