Steve keeps reminding us that " a telephoto lens only gets you closer to a bird you are already close to".
I have found 2 ways to do that:
1. I recently purchased a Tragopan V6 which works really well, until it gets too hot!
2. I have been using a CamRanger II for a few years for photos and it REALLY works well on both my Nikon Z6II and Sony a7R V. It creates its own WiFi network and the next work is very stable (I have never had it disconnect). Below is a screenshot of my iPad using the app. You have complete control of the primary shooting functions. In the image below I have my camera set up a few feet away from the perch the birds have been landing on and I can sit in my easy chair or car and wait for the magic moment and then hit the capture button.
Here is a video I shot over at the National Wildlife Refuge. I stationed my camera about 10 feet from the tree and activated the movie recording from my car, parked in the shade about 25 yards away. I am just starting to learn video, so it's not National Geographic-worthy!!
Fast WiFi up to 500 ft
