Many of us like to photograph hummingbirds, but how about a hummingbird moth? These cool creatures have been visiting my wife's outdoor hanging plants several times a day this summer. Their bodies are about two inches long, tongues at least that long. They hover, flit back and forth as fast as a hummingbird, and their wings are a blur. From a distance, they are easily mistaken for a hummingbird. They drink nectar and aid in pollination just like their avian friends. Very picky about the flowers they frequent; ours prefer what I believe are called Star of Bethlehem blooms. They give a camera's autofocus a real workout. Camera was D-850, 70-200 Nikon f4, f5.6-6.3, mostly 1/500, auto ISO.
