Not exactly sure what kind of bird this is, but she apparently had a nest nearby as she kept dive bombing me until I paddled away. Shot from my kayak.

Looks like a female Red Winged Blackbird. They can be very territorial. Seen the males chase off Ospreys and almost any bird in their area.

Thanks, Dan. That would make sense, on my same trip this morning I saw a male Red Winged Blackbird pretty much riding the back of a Great Blue Heron, chasing it away. I've heard RWBs can be very territorial!

Since you can only start one thread per day, here's another from this morning. This is that case when you're way too close - rounded a bend in the river and there she was. Can't really back off when you're in a kayak!
