I went for two different looks, even though the processing of the vulture is pretty much the same albeit a touch of difference in the contest, the darker frame seems to introduce a processed look. Some like a more natural finish, others may like a more processed look. Be interested for feedback as to other ideas and comments etc.

Number one for me. Great shot. I assume you had to stay very still to get a vulture to show that much interest in you considering you as a possible meal? :)

How about half way between the two? To me the vignette in the second one is over done, and the background in the first is distracting. If you could de-emphasize the background without going overly dark you could have a very dramatic photo.

Suggestions: is the rest of his lower mandible missing or is it cropped? I would include it if available. One way to de-emphasize the background would be to lower the overall exposure some, then brush in some light to the entire vulture, including his shoulders, etc. The upper mandible is lost in the second version, I would try to lighten it up so it shows as in the first one. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks, will give it a bash. this image its the whole frame and not cropped] as it was taken with a 10-20 lens and the bird was pecking at the lens as it was about 4 inches. from me. Fingers and shoe lace remained intact fortunastely.
