I'm looking for a Gimbal head and came across this one,

anyone know anything about it? I know and am a firm believer in you get what you pay for I shoot high power rifle comps for years our saying was, buy once cry once, but in the past month I bought a D850 and a 200 - 500 f/5.6 so funds are low.

I do not know anything about this specific gimbal, but I can say that the amount of knockoff machined parts (e.g. ball heads, tripods, plates, gimbals, etc.) has increased over the past few years and some of them seem fine for normal use. The problem is that it is not fully clear which ones are up to the task and which are not. I picked up a Sunwayfoto L-bracket for an camera body a few years ago and it appeared to be of comparable quality to brackets from known companies at higher prices. If absolute reliability is required, I would tend to stick with a known brand. And if customer service or loyalty to photography-dedicated companies is important, you may want to go with known brands with good reputations. It look like this particular model is available at B&H. You may want to see what the reviews there have to say (if only as a starting point).

Good luck,

I bought a Movo gimbal and used it for about a year before I broke down and got a Wimberly. The difference between the Movo and the Wimberly weren't all that much and didn't really show up until I sat the D5 and 600f/4 G combo on it. The Wimberly handled the extra weight a little bit better (smoother) probably due to the better bearings.

Hi arshuter

I bought that very same Gimbal back in March of this year and Did Not have a very good experience with it .. Ended up sending it back 😲

I decided to buy the Gimbal as I was struggling with hand holding long Lenses for BIF however I`d done a bit of research on various Gimbals and Wimberley was simply beyond my budget - I had watched a guy online use the Movo Photo GH700 for BIF and thought because he was a professional shooter that it would/should most likely be good Quality "it wasn`t good in my case" maybe I was unlucky and picked up a bad one

The problem was that the swing arm was Sloppy ie not a nice snug fit hence the camera Always sat at an angle even with the shortest Tele on the camera,, this may not be a deal breaker for some but for me I wanted to have it working 100 percent otherwise what would be the point .. I was using a Nikon d500 with the 70-300 (which is a fairly light lens) also the sigma 100-400 .. It did pi$$ me off somewhat because the only time the Camera and Lens sat completely Level was when the Gimbal arm was locked completely up Obviously defeating the purpose .. I explained the problem to the company via e-mail about the problem and they offered me a $30 refund if I kept it ... Of course I sent it back as it was so annoying and bearing in mind I had only had the gimbal less than a week..

In the end I decided to stretch my budget a little bit further and bought the SIRUI PH-20 check here >> SIRUI PH-20 its a really really nice smooth extremely well built Gimbal and well worth the extra money, it comfortably takes my Nikon D500 with a Sigma 150-600mm ....

There are dozens of Gimbals out there to choose from, hopefully you`ll find one to suit your needs

hopefully this was of some help

In the lower cost less expensive gimbals they use less high quality bearings. But they may work for life time but may fail tomorrow. Check Wemberly for used gimbals. For use with a 200-500 and used Kirk or Markins ball head will work fine. I have a Kirk BH-3 and it holds the 200-500 perfectly.

I purchased several less than $100 gimbals and gave them a try. I was never satisfied with any of them and they were returned. I do remember the MOVO and I sent it back right away, it had some very inconsistent resistance and noises in it's movement. All of the inexpensive gimbals I purchased looked exactly the same. I ended up keeping the cheapest one and took it apart to try to improve the workings. It is now smoother but I don't think it is any better.

I have never used a Wimberley, but I would guess the workings are a little more sophisticated and are more precisely engineered. I actually ended up buying a fluid head to shoot more video, but I am still interested in upgrading my gimbal. I am going to rent a Winberley for a week to see what a good gimbal is really like.

i went with the slik sgh-300 gimbal head for the sony a7riv and 200-600mm. the head cost $250 usd. i've never used a wemberly, but i like the slik gimbal head a lot.

I went for the Benro GH-2C which was recommended to me by a friend being nature pro. He uses it up to 800 f5.6 +TC + D4S, so mine will probably get a bit boared juggling around a 500f4 G + Tc + body as a max :). I have it for almost 6 years now and never had a reason to complain, neither in terns of stability nor smoothness in movement and adjustment.

Hi arshuter, not sure where you are but maybe take a look at the Lens Master range, a little different and a family concern in GB.

I’ve used Wimberley and Jobu gimbals untill I came across the Promedia gear Katana and I bought it in a heartbeat.
Built, design, bearings are better than Wimberley, but it’s a heavy brick.
Than I bought a Katana jr. and it’s imo the best I ever owned.
The same superb properties but a lighter less bulky package (and it copes with the 800/1000mm plus D6 without any problem)
