I am looking for options to automatically shift the focus on the D500 a given amount for images used in stacking.
is it better to do this in camera by actually shifting the focus a given amount or use a manual or motorized rail system. purchase sources for whatever options please. Thanks

I use qDSLRDashboard on an old Samsung phone to control a D810. It's $10, works well. There’s been an iOS version in the works.

That looks very interesting indeed. They seem to cover the whole spectrum of approaches. It's definitely one I will pursue and test.
