and wasn't aware that ravens (or it could be a crow) catch and eat live birds (which I think in this case is a sparrow)...

Nice catch. I few years ago I had a Crow land under one of my seed feeders amongst a group of House Finches. It was eating the seeds along with them when suddenly, he struck out and grabbed one of the Finches and took off. I was too busy watching to get a shot. Congrats on this one.

I've had a couple of other people tell me this as well after posting it on IG. I had no idea they could be predatory in that way.
 
Great timing! As the other mentioned it's definitely not unusual for crows. I was surprised the other day when a red-tailed hawk hopped under my juniper bush and sailed away with a magpie.
 
Nice capture! A bonus we get through photography - learning about nature.

I have photos of crows catching birds at a waterhole, burying them, and catching the next one, ending up with a whole graveyard of bodies for later consumption. It is not unusual.
