A black-backed jackal fights off a flock of white-backed vultures for the remains of a baby springbok.
In all my years of traveling to Africa I've never seen such a determined Jackal jump so high in a battle for food, an amazing and comical scene to witness!
Some 10 mins later he emerged victorious, running off with the remains of the carcass.

Great action series Marc, I wonder if the Jackal senses that the vultures are scavengers rather than overt killing raptors, and is therefore prepared to be more aggressive than if the bird had been something like a Martial eagle ?

Thanks David.

There's certainly some truth in your reasoning. It was an intense if not quite comical scene there for 10 mins or so!

Thanks very much.

That lens is amazing.

@kbrkr
But with all due respect, the lens plays only a very small part in capturing this image, and along with most wildlife photography........ it's more about timing, opportunity and patience mixed with a little bit of skill and a whole lotta luck! :giggle:
