This was near Bikaner, Rajasthan, one winter afternoon. We were on large, scrubby land, waiting for the sun to start setting. As evening neared, Jungle Cats (Felis chaus) became active. These small predators are important to the desert ecosystem. They keep rodent populations down and, given their omnivorous diet, play a role in dispersal of seeds of indigenous plant species.

Amazing animals these are.
