The Kalahari is an immense sand deposit that runs from the DRK down into SA. The geology is very interesting to explore. The part known as the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park nestles in the corner between SA, Namibia and Botswana. The saying is that : "once the red sand of the Kalahari has touched your feet, you always have to come back." It is a magical place of red dunes, camel thorn trees and wonderful denizens. And the landscapes can be extraordinary too. Temperatures are from below zero to high 40's Here are some images. The sunrise with the gemsbok ~ actually, that is a cast set-up behind the Reception at Twee Riviern camp. I took it on a Christmas morning when the camp gates did not open on time. Wow, these are amazing Callie! The blue sky with the red landscape in the second photo looks like it a photo from a different world. Just awesome!
Actually, Kathy, it is. Like your snow landscapes ~ totally a different world too for us dry country folks.
