I am using the recommended Kirk foot on the Z 600 PF.

I find my copy fits a bit loosely.

I don't have a sense that it is not secure, but it does not fit snugly against the lens base. When I pick it up by the foot there is some movement between the foot and lens.

I have two other Kirk feet because I also have the 400 f4.5 and the 70-200mm f2.8, both of which use the same foot.

I have checked each of those in each lens and all three seem to fit slightly loosely on the 600 pf. yet fit snugly on the other lenses.

Is anyone else encountering this issue?

I thought my Kirk foot was wobbly. Upon closer inspection the problem was that the four screws on the Nikon lens foot "mount" itself were not tight, i.e., what was wobbling was not the Kirk foot but the bottom of the lens foot itself. I tightened these and the problem went away. It returned, but then I read in one of these threads about the difference between Phillips and JIS screws/screwdrivers. Using a tiny JIS screwdriver really did the trick.

You might check to see if your lens similarly came with slightly loose screws.

FWIW, I’ve used the RRS foot on my Z 600 mm PF. No looseness noticed. And it also fits my Z 70-200, Z 100-400 and Z 400 f4.5. So I have two of them. (I also use Kirk products.)

If they work loose again you may want to consider a TINY drop of blue loctite on each screw. Just don't use the red stuff, which is fairly permanent.

Here is mine.
Seems a bit to one side, but its tight.

I took a close look at the situation this morning in light of the comments. I confirm the problem is in the lens, the mount itself is loose.

I just now tightened the screws and it now is rock solid.

I will keep a close watch on those and the next step will be blue loctite if it comes back.

THANKS EVERYONE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND SOLVED.

I don’t need it for the tripod, but I simply need a longer handle to carry it around handheld
Since you’re using a Kirk plate on the OEM foot, why don’t you just get a longer plate? Kirk makes them in different lengths. And because there is a some play between the lens plate and foot, you probably want to make sure when tightened the lens plate and OEM foot are in line so if you ever use the lens on a tripod your lens isn’t misaligned to your subject.

Plate on OEM is not as comfortable as a single longer foot. Therefore I was considering having a one piece. The OEM is too short to use as a handle

I think the Kirk replacement foot is a bit longer than the OEM foot. I think it depends on the size of your hand. I am 6-3 and have fairly large hands. I find the Kirk foot mostly OK but I may have to put a finger inside the foot while carrying it.

Could you please provide a link to JIS screwdrivers? Sounds like an accessory that I might need.

I found a set of four small one for $19mfrom Ifixit on Amazon. I got them yesterday. They fit the screws on the lens foot mount.
