Thanks Joe. The bird is wild but comes for a feed.Great shots! The first one looks like one of my college professors from back in the Dark Ages.
The Kookaburra is a Kingfisher. It eats invertebrates, reptiles, small mammals and birds. I've never seen one take a bird but have seen and photographed them taking everything else. Photographed one with a small red bellied black snake but the photo was not much good.Cool shots. They look a lot like our kingfishers. I wonder if they are somehow related. Never been to Australia and haven’t seen one of these in person,
Thanks. I thought it had same shape and bill as our belted kingfishers here. Pretty bird and nice photos of them. The Kookaburra is a Kingfisher. Thanks Ira. As far as I know they do not take fish.Great shots Ibrahim, Do they ever eat fish like other Kingfishers?
Glad you liked it Kirk.Nice set and shooting Ibrahim. Love his looks.
Thanks Elsa.Beautiful Captures!
From what I remember from a talk I once attended - several - if not most Kingfishers actually don't enjoy fish as their main meal - if at all.
Except if they are battered with chips and I'm about to eat it. I had a kookaburra take a piece of battered fish out of my hand as I was about to eat it at an outdoor cafe in Sydney! Thanks Ira. As far as I know they do not take fish.
