One of the platforms in the refuge did not contain a nesting pair until the end of April which was nearly 5 weeks later than the rest of the crew I started photographing. It is also one of the closest to the road. They began building a nest around the 3rd week of April and mated on April 27, 2024. Last year this nest failed to produce any chicks. So I kept my fingers crossed that they would be successful. On July 5, I was pleasantly surprised to see 3 little heads pop up along the rim of the nest. I’m guessing that they are at least 2 weeks. I didn’t get a chance to observe the nest the week before for very long so I missed them.

Here is mom and dad.
