Lens covers

I've heard bad things about Lenscoat, but I've used them on all my lenses for the last 4 years without issue.

Rolanpro is supposedly better.

A lot of people have been preferring the Alphagvrd skins recently. Lighter and less bulky, but I wonder how it handles overall protection from dings and dents.

I'm seeing opinions about which lens covers are best. Rolanpro or Lenscoat?
Rolanpro makes better quality and in terms of service life, as practice shows it lasts longer. They make good covers - no threads sticking out as if from an old sweater. What you can be picky about is the cutout-window for the switch controls. The stitching is a mess. There are copies with a large window and a narrow window, when you start to switch everything, you move the fabric.

These are excellent! , all seams are overlocked so they do not fray. Get the rubber backed.
They come from the U.K. but the shipping is fast , and at a reasonable rate.

I also use their Camo covers (rubber backed Moss is my favourite) and they are excellent quality and a sensible price compared with the two brands mentioned by the OP. I have also just worked with them to produce a cover for a Nikon Z lens not currently in their range and having given feedback on their Nikon Z 800 f/6.3 cover they are also producing an enhancement to manage the control ring better. Great people to work with.

I have used Fujing lens covers because several reviewers gave them positive reviews. I have been completely satisfied with mine, they fit well provide substantial protection to the lens and have not had issues for me.

I think these come directly from China and perhaps their marketing is not steady or consistent and sometimes they are hard to find.

I own Lenscoat and Roland Pro covers. Roland Pro everyday of the week and twice on Sunday! A little more difficult to get on but MUCH higher quality!
I also have both - Rolanpro seems more tailored...and it feels nicer. I do have issues with the cutouts for buttons, TC, etc., but that's regardless of brand.

Also agree with that Rolanpro is a little bit more difficult to get on, but it feels worth it in the end.
I do use Zemlin hoods on my long lenses, and I find that I can adapt the LenCoat cover to a little better but again, ymmv.

My order of preference based on actual use in different lenses I have had then on:
Chasing Birds>>> Outdoorphotographygear (lots of problems with fit & finish, lack of appropriate holes, rude owner)>Lenscoat>RolanPro

This comment about Outdoor Photography Gear, is absolute rubbish! I have them on my Z 400/4.5, Z 600/6.3, and Z 800/6.3.

They all fit perfectly , the finish is superb, and appropriate holes and windows are in exactly the correct places.

A clue to why this person made these comments is the fact that he says "rude owner". Maybe he is trying some kind of retribution.

Unsure what your comments mean. I was stating the facts & being helpful. Maybe the newer models have now got holes in them. Thanks for letting me know!
The owner was rude- I am 100% entitled to my opinion. He banned me on eBay from buying any of his products as I asked him about why the skins didn’t have holes in them!! Childish!! 😂

Chasing Bords are made with superbly made neoprene material; the holes are laser cut & the whole skin can easily be fitted Cf. RolanPro which has cloth sandwiched in the material making it a challenge to fit into the lens Cf Outdoor… becomes loose with time & keeps slipping thereby covering the buttons & has to be continuously readjusted

Dunno, I've had the exact opposite (and positive) experience with Outdoor Photography Gear. They've been very accommodating, helpful, always follow up, and produce high quality products which are better than Lenscoat. I prefer not to support the Chinese communist party whenever possible and OPG is an excellent alternative.

A product is a product is a product! Unfortunately the phone you are & I are using to type these replies are also made in China. Yes even I don’t believe in their policies. We use lenses made in China & are superb. I don’t know why lens covers have produced so much bile! 😂
@Steve Can someone moderate this thread!

The bile has been yours, and you don't know why?

Karl Zemlin makes excellent lens covers, especially for the larger primes. I’ve purchased several of his products and have never been disappointed. They cost a bit more, but are well worth it.

I have both and they work great. RolanPro like someone mentioned is very tailored and tight fit. The LensCoat Ive had for many years on my super teles and fraying is minimal after many years. I still think Lens Coat offers the best protection for my gear. Alpha guard is just pretty offers minimal protection in my opinion. Maybe walking thru a tick wooded area might prevent some scratches but overall they just have a cool graphic on it.

Best of Luck on your Choice
