Now that's a blast from the past. As a very young teenager, I used to hitch-hike the 30 odd klms from home to the beaches. Used to sleep on the beach, no tent, no sleeping bag, etc.. Winter time got a bit cold but a roaring fire kept us warm. We would catch fish, prawns, crabs and collect oysters off the rocks to feed ourselves. Those were the days.
Get your bum to Melbourne and I will help you relive them. I still go out camping, but in a slightly more mature way. My little 4wd with a mattress in the back and plenty of food cos I don't have faith in my fishing skills any more.
