Elephants are so protective of their young. This young mum in Samburu in central Kenya, was fairly relaxed but alert. The ellies here have a more brown hue than those in Masai Mara, reflecting the difference in the soil. Mum has a GPS tracker as you can see, as part if a long term research project.

Yup, mum stayed in front at all times as a precaution even though I was some distance away. Little ones sometimes get curious and certainly out on a brave face at times in trying to copy their bigger siblings in facing up to visitors who get to close.
 
Cheers peeps. Off to Tsavo National park in southern Kenya for a few days this week with a chum who is a serious birder and who introduced me to wildlife photography, so let’s see what pops up. Lots of elephants normally but it’s quite dry at the moment. Fingers crossed
