These little reptiles can grow up to 5.9 inches long and have the ability to regenerate their tails --- often "dropping" the tail as a decoy when being pursued by a predator, the abandoned tail keeps wiggling, distracting the hunter and allowing the lizard to escape. Adhesive pads on their toes allow these animals to hunt insects on vertical walls and on ceilings too --- they are often found overwintering in properties --- we have a population of at least 20 in our Spanish house where their very welcome as mosquitoes are high on their menu. Originally from North Africa they have gradually moved into the Iberian peninsula and are frequently seen at night patrolling outside wall lights.
