Mike, any chance you could pull back some of the highlights on the breast feathers for more detail? At the same time increase contrast a bit to make it pop.
If you want I can post an example here to illustrate.

Here is my try on one of the images using PS, mask on the breast, lowering the highlights, adding contrast and a slight graduation S curve on the whole bird; it does seem better to me - ok?

Thank you Rassie! I did not want to exaggerate too much and I think I also lost some detail originally in the highlights. Next time I will check the histogram but with these little birds, all happens so very quickly....
