Mt Warning gained its name from Captain Cook back in 1770 when he nearly ran into grief on some shallow reefs. As kids, we used to ride our bicycles from town, about 15klms to the base of the climb. The last 5klms was all uphill and dirt road in those days. We would then run (yes run, we were young, fit and probably stupid o_O) to the top, spend an hour or so savouring the views then run back to our bikes. Return journey of nearly 9klms. We would then have a BBQ before jumping on the bikes and try and kill ourselves as we hurtled down the hill again. Wonderful memories.

Foreground is sugar cane fields.
