Another love to hate primate ~ although quite beautiful and cute, and a disaster looking for a lpace to happen. Excellent thieves and raiders too. This one was in Letaba camp, Kriger NP, hanging onto his mother. ~ Vervet Monkey, Cercopithecus aethiops, Blou-aap ~ D500; 80-400 @ 400 mm; f/7.1; 1/800; ISO 1600; -1.3 EV

This baby is too cute! Great capture. I am unfamiliar with these monkeys - why are they a disaster waiting to happen?
Kathy, IMO, they are pests. They break-in, steal destroy and defile. They have broken into our fridge and spoiled everything eatable in it in Kruger. They mess all over, they will bite you or attack you when threatened. I have seen umpteen times at the picnic spots how, especially overseas visitors, are robbed of their food at breakfast. They are fast and cunning and dangerous and many people only see them as cute. That is true - out in the veld but they are opportunists and quickly learn to co-exist with humans. Partly the human's fault . . .

Callie, since I don’t have to live with them, your description is, well, entertaining! Sort of like how I feel about the ‘snow is so beautiful’ comments. I guess the grass is always greener ... :)

Oh Boy! You made my day with that snow comment!

Yup, almost time to get the snow tires on the car. I don’t have a garage. Hence, I always have 4 tires adding their gorgeous aesthetic to my basement! Such is the beauty of living with snow.

Know what you mean about the vervets, they are so brazen. Sykes monkeys are a nuisance too! Wonder if they both would like the snow....
Okay, for all of you complaining about monkey behaviour, I will gladly trade my residence in my beautiful snowy environment for your monkey infested one :)
Note, the snow is still a few months off ...

Nice shot, Callie. This guy is in monkey heaven. Well-protected by mother, food spigot hanging right at his mouth so no worries about going hungry. And those eyes - already scheming how he's going to rob you when you turn your back. :)
