Since I was a little kid growing up in South Africa I was always fascinated by the Lilac-breasted Roller, perhaps because it was such a colourful bird, and confined to the northern parts of the country. You don't see these in the Cape or Johannesburg. They are more often seen in the Lowveld and Kruger Park areas.

Here's a collection that I managed on two safaris in 2016 and 2019. No BIF shots of these guys, unfortunately.

I share your admiration for these flying gems. Just came back from Botswana and was lucky to see many of them. Seemed like one on every dead tree -no bif images for sure since they are quick and I am slow.

Great set of shots!
Thanks, Woody. :)

Beautiful birds and images 👍👍👍
Thanks, Mike.

Thanks, Judith. Besides this bird, the bee-eaters and the Malachite Kingfisher are some of my favourites as well, all of them found in the same geography.

Beautiful bird, outstanding photos!
Thanks, Lance.

Nice shots!
Thanks, Steven.

Great series of images Koos,
Although I have quite a few images of them I still can't resist taking a few more.

Thanks, Gavin. You should post some of them. I constantly have to remind myself that people in other parts of the world often have no idea of the beautiful animals to be found elsewhere. What’s mundane to us is unique to others.

Beautiful set Rassie👍👍👍

Beautiful bird, more colorful than a painted bunting, which I really love too
Yes, I guess here in North America the Painted Bunting is probably the closest in terms of variety of colours on the bird. That one is still on my bucket list - I don't have a good image of one. The Bee-Eaters in Africa are also beautiful birds.
