Hello
Just purchased a new New Delkin Black 650GB CF express type B card for my Z8. I tested continuous shooting in Raw HE* and I am experiencing pauses after approx. 104 frames or so. Oddly my previous 256GB delkin power G4 did better at around 210 frames. Also worth noting is both cards were "full " formated. Did I get a faulty card ? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I have the SD card set to overflow only.
Pretty sure the z8/z9 have the same write speeds and buffer limit. It's also weird that my 256 delkin power G4 out performed the black card? Thanks

Well, you're capped by the z8, which is limited to ~900MB/s write from the camera to the card regardless. A faster card won't matter beyond that.

Though it makes me wonder if you're writing to an SD card at the same time, might explain the slow down.

I have done some basic testing with my Z9 and my CFE cards. I don't have any issues with my Delkin Blacks, Prograde Cobalts, and Angelbird AV Pro SX cards getting 200 HE* images without any slowing. I have also tested all of those cards and I can get almost 400 HE* images in 20 seconds. I have a Prograde Gold 4.0 card that I can only get 136 HE* images before slowing. This is in a controlled environment so all of the images compress to the same size and image size could change these results.

I was disappointed in the performance of the Prograde Gold 4.0 card I purchased. I am wondering if there is an issue with 4.0 cards performing slower that measured speeds in devices that do not natively support 4.0.

I think I am going to return the card to BH , since I just received it yesterday. I'll try a different version of a delkin black or Prograde Cobalt in hope of picking up more frames from the buffer. I expected the Delkin Black v4 650GB to be much faster than it is. Certainly not worth it current price. Thank again

Could you tell me which Delkin Black and Prograde Cobalts cards you have tested ? I would Appreciate information on the capacity and whether v2 or v4 versions ? Thank you

I just tested my Delkin Power 512 G4 with the same continuous Raw HE* on Z8 and got the same 104 files (5,2 sec) before frames drop to about 15 Fps.if this can help you..
Very helpful, thank you. Your getting pretty much the same speed you would get with the Delkin Black 650 v4 card (matches my tests with Raw HE*). So the high end v4 cards do not seem to have any advantage on current cameras like z8/z9.

The Delkin Blacks are both 325GB and were purchased in 2023, the Prograde Cobalt is a 165GB and was also purchased in 2023. They are not CFE V4.0 cards.

It's seems the v4. 0 cards have zero benefit over the previous generation in current cameras . I'm sure that will change with the next iteration of Nikon cameras , but prices on v4 cards will also drop further by then and offer even more capacity. Thanks again
