I am going to NOLA for a work trip and was wondering if a swamp tour was worth the effort of hauling my wildlife camera gear or are they too tourist centric. Has anyone photographed around NOLA. Any tips/suggestions/things to avoid?

It has been a long time since i took one of those but i remember it well.
will depend on the boat and number of people on board.
You would need to shoot hand held maybe at most have a monopod. They will not have a lot of patience with fiddling around and waiting for the special shot.
You might consider hiring one of those guys for a custom tour where they will give you some leeway and let you do what you want.
My recollection is some of the wildlife is skittish so you will need some reach.
