Hello, I'm a hobbyist who previously used a Nikon D4 for photo's only and now an excitingly new to Z9 for mostly video.
I've become comfortable with my video technique but still questioning my video settings. Since Nikon ended their computer support for my Mini's OS level I've been putting off any downloading D4 photo's and now the video's.

I'm considering the Apple M4 Mac Mini Pro which became available for pre order this week. I'm unsure of what my video needs should be. Other than basic beginning and ending editing and possibly minor exposure corrections I don't anticipate color enhancements etc.

It seems many Z9 users found the current M2 Mac Studio partnered well. I'm hopping the M4 Mini Pro will suit my needs with the proper options such as: 12 16 16 core or 14 20 16 core, 24GB or 48GB memory, Final Cut Pro? Should I consider a memory card reader or continue straight from the camera?

I'd appreciate your opinions or suggestions.

Thanks
Dave

I have used Apple products for 14 years and love them. I do a fair amount of video and highly recommend Final Cut Pro. Having said that I still currently use a 2020 intel iMac and have no problems with 4K video. I recently purchased a MacBook Air m3 with 16gb ram and it flies thru video edits. I would at least get 16gb of ram. I think any of the processors will handle video editing with no issues.

I am also about to purchase a new mini. I will probably go with the Mac mini M4 Pro. It’s more than enough. I use a reader but if your comfortable going right from camera , stay with that.

Thanks for all your quick responses.

I googled an M4 Mini vs M2 Studio thread. Even though the M4 is in pre sale there we're already a number of helpful opinions.

As of today I'm seriously considering the Mini Pro, 64GB memory and Final Cut Pro.

There was a suggestion on the other forum for 1TB of Storage to be able to import large 8K video content to work on internally rather than from an outboard SSD?

Hooligans, can you briefly explain the situation for 10GB Internet Port? The least expensive option by the way.

Purely speed via higher bandwidth if you are using a NAS or getting fast internet into your MAC. Both good reasons and a no brainer for me to "future" proof things a bit.
The M4 Pro is a great choice. If you can afford the higher end one it will mean the machine might last longer as the programs continue to demand faster resources.
