I went to New Zealand 5 years ago but never really posted many images of the wonderful birds from there. New Zealand is not only one of the most beautiful places on this planet, but it also has some magnificent and some endangered birds. I was actually going through the New Zealand trip photos and missed a number that I had not processed or processed hurriedly and did a re-do.

1) Tomtit - male.

2) Kākā Parrot - An endangered bird, listed as Vulnerable. A large parrot, about the size of an Australian Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. This was shot at Orokonui Ecosanctuary (highly recommended) where the birds are wild and can come and go as they please, but there are feeders there to help with their survival.

Wow! Wht a variety. Well done Lance👍👍👍

Great shots Lance, your South Island Takahe looks like our Grey-headed Swamphen, that is considered an invasive species down here in South Florida.

wonderful set of images !
Thank you very much, Patrick. Much appreciated!

They look to be related as their scientific name is in the family of Porphyrio.
They also look like our Purple Swamp Hen.

Great photos, I love N.Z. Nearly immigrated years ago. Those Kea can be a nuisance. :) Always loved the fantails!
Thank you very much, Jim. Much appreciated!
New Zealand would also be my choice of where to live other than Australia. :)

G'day mate!! It's been a long time since I've logged into this forum (due to health issues) and it's no surprise that I come across another example of your outstanding skills.... I'm back in NZ for the first time in a few years and agree with others that it's an awesome country.... Although not as plentiful, or colorful as Aussie birdlife, the birds here are a challenge to capture... I personally love the Tui with its multiple personalities.... Keep well my friend!

I'm sorry to hear of your health issues and I hope all is resolved or at least getting on top of it. Stay well!

Great samples of native species.
Thank you very much, O. Much appreciated!

Great set of images of New Zealand native birds. They’re difficult to shoot at any time, you’re a very patient man.
Thank you very much, Maurie. Much appreciated!

Great pictures. I went there once and got some good bird pics too, they have some beauties. I love the Kaka, and the Tui. Great place for bird photography. Not good for mammals since they don’t have any.
