I had a great night macro session with Johan Chaves in Quepos (outside Manuel Antonio). He has an amazing ability to spot wildlife at night, recognizing sounds and seeing things I never could (while keeping us safe from the vipers). I am a novice macro shooter and know even less about flash/lighting and he was crucial in guiding me with techniques and settings (and doing all the lighting while I tried to steady my hands and concentrate). It was hard choosing the favorites from my set and of course the tree frogs were the highlight but I wanted to show the variety from the night.
Bull Frog (he was massive and surprisingly patient)
"Jesus Lizard" (Common Basilisk)
Planthopper Nymph (still amazed Johan spotted this tiny creature)
Liturgusa krattorum (Kratt's Lichen Mantis)- This species was discovered in 2014 and named after Martin and Christ Kratt (of Kratts Creatures, Zoboomafoo and Wild Kratts)!
