I am considering buying a Z14-30mm wide angle zoom. This seems a good value lens. I am currently using 14-24mm 2.8 & 16-35mm F4, with Z adaptor. The reviews I have seen comparing it to the old 14-24mm f2.8, are remarkably good. I would almost certainly get rid of the 16-35mm and ultimately the 14-24mm. (Not while still using the great D850!) The 14-30mm almost seems too good to be true and with the ability take filters easily, is very tempting. If it is as good as I would like it to be, it would also save a good deal of space.Has anyone any negative feedback?
The new Z14-24mm is also a consideration but 2x price. I do like to do a little astro-photography, is the f2.8 vs f4 a big deal??

I have the 14-30/4. Very good lens and on a par with the older 14-24/2.8 F mount lens (I used to rent that for trips). The 14-30 is excellent at 5.6-8, wide open the corners are a bit weaker. But I'm really happy with it, and the new 14-24/2.8 doesn't appear to be that much better (check out this review: https://www.cameralabs.com/nikon-z-14-24mm-f2-8-s-review/ ). For astro photography, though, a stop faster makes a big difference. Then again, I have an Irix 15/2.4 manful focus F mount lens that works great on a Z7 and is not expensive - much less than the difference between the 14-30 and the 14-24...

The 14-30/4 S is the only Z lens I own at the moment. It's attached to my Z6 which I use almost exclusively for real estate photography. I love it! For many years I owned the 16-35 f/4 and this 14-30 is much, much better. I don't take many landscape photos, but I'd think it'd be excellent. I've owned, or used, six Nikkor ultra wide lenses over the years and I prefer this one by far. It's extremely sharp and distortion is better controlled than all the others. FYI, I have not tried the new 14-24/2.8 S. However, it's much bigger, heavier, and more expensive.

Honestly, I've been more than a little impressed with the 14-30. In fact, I sold my 14-24 F mount lens since I don't use it anymore. I would agree with JP about astro though - F/2.8 makes a difference.

Thanks all, sounds like a good choice. The extra reach is a bonus as well👍
That's a good point. For my landscape work, I actually tend to favor wider shots and the nice thing with the 14-30 is that I usually don't need anything else - before I was using the 14-24 and the 24-70 - but - much of the time I was just filling in the gap between 24mm and 30mm :)
