When I first got my 200-500mm lens I used the factory collar and foot. It was clunky and had a habit of turning because there's only one screw. I also hated not having an Arca plate. So I drilled and tapped a second hole and added a short Arca plate. That worked pretty good. But the camera rotation was still rough and clunky. So I did a little research on the third party collars. I ended up biting the bullet and getting the RRS set up. I can tell you I don't regret spending the money at all. The mount is rock solid and the rotation is smooth as glass. It also has the quick release if I want to transition to handheld. This is one of the best pieces of camera kit I've bought. Made in America and worth every penny.
