I finally broke down and ordered the Nikon 300 PF and have been reading a lot about using it for "macro" photography. I really like taking pictures of dragonflies and the 200-500 did a great job.

Has anyone experimented with an extension tube on the 300 PF ??

Sure, I've used extension tubes to decrease the minimum focusing distance on many of my prime lenses including the 300mm PF it let's you get that much closer to fill the frame with small subjects. You of course lose the ability to focus at long distances when the tube is mounted but that's normal with extension tubes. When I want to shoot macro subjects with my 300mm PF I attach the 36mm Kenko AF extension tube, when I just want to get a bit closer to subjects that aren't truly macro scale I'll use one of the shorter tubes in the Kenko set.

Sure. If your camera has the "in camera support", by using a focus rail (the way I do it with my D500) or by the significantly less reliable adjusting the focus ring or focus point manually (which I can't seem to do even on deer, let along a bug!).

Can you photo stack with a 300pf and extension tubes?
Sure, as posted above you can focus stack manually or using Nikon's Focus Shift Shooting feature in compatible cameras as long as you use extension tubes which support AF functionality which includes Kenko or Vello extension tubes.
