Hi Guys

I`m wondering if there is an option on the Nikon D500 to Delete ""Some images"" but keep the ones that have been protected - let me explain ..

I took around 100 shots today , as I was checking through the images I had selected the "Lock Key Symbol" on only 4 images so that I would not accidentally delete them, however I thought it would be a good idea to delete the other 96 images "In Camera" all at once rather than having to go through each and every individual image, but when I went to the delete button it would not let me delete any of them - my thinking was that I`d simply hit the delete and the camera would remove all of the 96 unwanted images but automatically keep the 4 that I had selected as "Keepers" using the Lock Key on those 4 images

My reasoning behind this was - If I`m out in the field for a day and lets say I`ve taken 400/500 shots and out of those shots I have selected 20 that I do not want to accidentally delete, so rather than come home to the laptop later in the evening and having to go through all of the images and Delete them one by one I would simply have just the 20 that I`d saved earlier .. Is there a command that I could assign to a button to do this ? Also would this be a good Or bad idea to take this course of action "In Camera" .....

Generally accepted that deleting in camera will eventually corrupt the card. Better to format the card to remove all images once the keepers have been stowed away on the computer.

So as I've never used the delete option in camera I don't know the answer to the specific question.

(In my opinion) No way to do what you desire, wish there was. I delete one after another occasionally. But agree that this can play havoc on the card.
I'll watch this to see if someone can suggest a better way

I never faff around with the images on the card in camera. Looking at the LCD is not as good as looking on the computer where what can look like a poor image on the camera actually has some merit when seen on a better display and better conditions. Easiest way to prevent accidental deletion is don't delete in camera. You don't have to delete them one by one at home. Isn't that what you are doing in camera? Just wizz through them marking the ones you don't want then delete them in one hit. Beatuty of doing this is if you do accidentally delete an image you want - it is in your recycle bin and can be retrieved!

Deleting “”In Camera”” is something that I do regularly as I’d no idea that it would eventually corrupt the card - I’m glad I’ve posted this thread now as it’s something that I will no longer do

I would agree with the comments about deleting in camera not being a good practice but there is a way to do it.

In the playback menu of the D500 there is a delete menu option and the first option is selected. This allows you to scroll through your images and select the ones you want to delete.

Never ever delete in camera whether one image or more. Download to your computer, review, and delete from the computer. Insert card back in camera and format card. As gbodave said above you will eventually corrupt the card. Carry and extra card or use second card in camera as an overflow.

I've always figured I can't see an image well enough on the camera to keep or delete it. I always review images on the computer. Cards aren't that expensive, so carry
extras. :)
